Main Contractor: SMS Construction
Client: Capital Shoppers
Project Description:
The new Marriot Hotel is built in two stages, a first tower which had already reached full height, and a later adjacent structure. EAP were contracted to construct a supporting retaining wall to ensure that the earlier skyscraper will not collapse into the immediately adjacent deep basement during its construction.
Our solution was a contiguous piled wall formed of 77 no. 600mm piles installed by CFA method to 18m deep. The wall should be anchored back under the existing building using 101no. 150mm diameter ground anchors drilled to an average of 18m deep.
This was a change to the Client’s original design which was informed by EA Piling’s advice, and secured our client a substantial cost saving. The adjustment demonstrates EA Piling’s passion for quality engineering design and practice, seeking to achieve optimisations and cost-savings wherever possible.
