Mutundwe-Entebbe Transmission Line: Rotary Piles, Civils Construction, Integrity Testing

Scope of Services:

Installation of 44no. 1000mm diameter rotary piles, integrity tests, and construction of pile caps and chimneys, including supply of steel and concrete.

Location: Entebbe, Uganda

Completion Date: February 2023

Main Contractor: National Contracting Co. Ltd.

Client: Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL)

Project Description:

The Mutundwe-Entebbe Transmission Line crosses a swamp near Entebbe and therefore required piled foundations for the towers in the area.

After receiving drawings of the piles, EA Piling engineers optimised the reinforcement design to save time and money, and submitted our own drawings to the designer for approval.

We then supplied and assembled the reinforcing steel and concrete.

EA Piling installed the piles for five towers. The foundation systems varied between the towers meaning there was a total of 44 piles all of 1000mm diameter and varying between 13m and 24m in depth. Following the piling, integrity tests were undertaken on all piles.

We then constructed the pile caps for all locations and installed the steel and concrete chimneys on which the towers would be attached.

The project showcased EA Piling’s flexibility to assist our clients with onward works after piling, and our team’s ability to undertake general civil engineering construction work.
