Saka Bridge: Rotary Piling and Load Testing
Scope of Services:
32 no. 1000mm diameter rotary piles down to rock, integrity testing on all piles and static load testing to 200 tonnes.
Location: Pallisa, Uganda
Completion Date: February 2023
Main Contractor: The Arab Contractors
Client: UNRA
Project Description:
EA Piling were delighted to be selected to work with The Arab Contractors to construct deep foundations for a road bridge crossing the Ambulugoma River near Pallisa.
Part of the Saka Road and Bridge Project, which consists of a road passing through a dense swamp with a length of 4.5 km, the foundation solution was for 32 rotary piles of 1000mm diameter. These were drilled until hard rock was found, providing extremely strong foundations.
Following completion of piling works, integrity tests will be undertaken on all piles. A static load test will verify the design of a sample pile to 200 tonnes of vertical load. EA Piling designed the reaction piles and load frame for the test and advised the designer of the main piles on conditions for refusal in rock.
The project added another project to EA Piling’s extensive portfolio of bridge foundation contracts.
